Research Findings
Adults
Attend library events and programs, sign up for library card, borrow materials, and donate to Friends and Foundation.
Overdue fines prevent adults from borrowing materials. Adults in Monroe County are unaware of library resources.
Youth
Obtain library card, borrow materials, and participate in programs (summer reading).
Youth don’t feel comfortable going to libraries alone.  Overdue fines prevent usage of library.
Schools
Take youth on field trips to libraries, promote library cards, and use Friends and Foundation promotion materials (posters, flyers, bookmarks).
Teachers feel fieldtrips interrupt lessons.  Teachers unaware of library resources.

 Message:
                        I.         User friendly events (e.g. 2012 Book Fair) will engage community.
II.         Tag lines: Love your local library.  Check out your local library. Used on posters, flyers, bookmarks, and Video PSA.
Action Plan:  The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public library will increase community engagement in local libraries by multifaceted marketing plan (special events, PSAs, bookmarks, flyers, posters). Overdue library fines will be waived for event participants and for people who visit the library in the month of March.
Assessment:
            We will measure:
                                          I.         Increase in number of active library cards (active meaning at least two transactions per year).
II.         Number of participants at special events
III.         Number of school field trips to libraries
                                      IV.         Volunteer hours
                                        V.         Monetary donations/proceeds from book sales to Friends and Foundation
Course Correction:
After one year we will evaluate the success of the effort and adapt our strategies as necessary.

This document is another element of our Public Service Announcement, a public relations paper. This gets more into the details of the event, rather than the advertisement of it. This was created by both Gena and I, and is completely fictional. I found it very educational in that I have never embarked on such a journey before. I've never worked on a type of paper like this, so it was cool to research and learn about the behind-the-scenes of actual events of this sort.

This above text illustrates a press release created by Gena and I as a precursor to our Public Service Announcement. This was educational in that I hadn't previously known what a press release was, and thus was a new experience. In it, we talk of our up and coming fictional book fair to help raise awareness and support for libraries, aimed to help publicize the event.

Personal Interview

My personal interview, which is on your flashdrive under "My New Project," I talk a great deal about myself and interests. I worked in a group with Gena and Francis, Francis asking me the questions and Gena on camera. I definitely learned a lot during this project due to the fact that it was my first real exposure to professional editing. I learned about B-Rolls, and tips and tricks around iMovie.

Beats and Eats Podcast

This is a podcast that Gena, Grace and I made. It's portrayed as a cooking show, although features a great deal of sarcasm and comedic influences. Gena and I are the hosts, and Grace is a caller-in. We host a segment about making truffles, and even brought in some for the class when we presented it to the class. This was my first time working with garage band, and was thus a learning experience. Too, I learned a great deal of typical podcast elements and the like.

Manoocher Deghati Prezi

This link is to a prezi that I made detailing the photographer Manoocher Deghati. He was quite an influential man, known best for his war photography. Within this presentation I provide a short biography about him, and feature six pieces by him, some of my particular favorites. Through this project I gained a significant amount of respect for photographers and all they do. Without them we would probably have a very different world perspective, and lack a greater appreciation and understanding of people, objects, animals, and nature. I found Deghati specifically profound, in that his work centered around wartime horrors, but also pieces showcasing the beauty you can find in the world, and even in war itself.

Nature Magazine

This photoset is of a nature magazine that Gena and I created. It centers specifically around nature of Rochester, highlighting community events and the genius behind our great nature parks, Frederick Law Olmsted. It also acts a more strictly winter edition, as we wrote this in December, and thus talks about sledding and other winter activities. I actually learned a lot from this project, both about Microsoft Word and current events in Rochester. It was fun, too.

Women in Journalism Prezi

http://prezi.com/iu3eeuokcz6f/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

This prezi is one of the first projects I worked on this year with Gena. It depicts famous women throughout journalism history whom have been very significant and influential. In it we talk about women such as Anne Catherine Green, Margaret Fuller, Fanny Fern, Mary Ann Shadd, Belva Davis, and Katie Couric. I learned a great deal from this project since it was our first endeavor in this class, and provided a great introduction into the journalism course. It provided a lot of exposition. Also, I hadn't previously worked with Prezi much, and this helped me to get a feel for the program.
